Website Design
Your website is often the first meaningful interaction someone has with your business. It’s an opportunity to tell your story, build trust, and create an experience with your business that feels effortless from the very first click. At Ivory Ember Studio, I create custom Squarespace websites that combine refined design with purposeful strategy. The result is a timeless online presence that feels aligned with your brand, supports your business goals, and grows alongside you for years to come.

The Process
-
It all begins with getting to know your business.
After you enquire, you’ll complete a Project Discovery Questionnaire where I’ll learn more about your business, your current website (if applicable), what you’re hoping to achieve, and the website experience you’re interested in.
This initial stage allows me to understand the scope of your project and determine whether we’re the right fit before we move forward.
-
Once I’ve reviewed everything you’ve shared, I’ll prepare a Project Proposal outlining the direction of your project, inclusions, investment, anticipated timeline and what you can expect throughout our time together.
You’ll have everything you need to make an informed decision before officially booking your project.
-
Once your project is booked, contract is signed and deposit is paid, we’ll dig much deeper.
You’ll complete your Project Strategy Workbook, where I’ll gather the content, imagery, and strategic information needed to begin your website. We’ll explore your audience, goals, services, messaging, desired functionality, and the journey we want visitors to take.
From there, I’ll plan the structure and direction of your website before moving into design.
-
Now your website comes to life.
I’ll translate everything we’ve established into a custom website that thoughtfully brings together your branding, content, imagery, and business goals.
Each page will be designed as part of a wider experience, with careful consideration given to hierarchy, navigation, calls-to-action, mobile responsiveness, and how visitors naturally move through your content.
-
Once the initial website has been developed, you’ll have the opportunity to explore it and provide feedback.
We’ll work through the revision rounds included within your project, refining the details until everything feels aligned, cohesive, and ready to represent your business.
-
Before your website goes live, I’ll complete the final technical configuration and work through your Website Launch Checklist.
We’ll check links, forms, mobile layouts, basic SEO settings, integrations, and other important details to ensure your website is ready to welcome visitors.
-
Once everything is approved, we’ll launch your website and I’ll provide the resources and guidance to help you confidently manage it moving forward.
You’ll walk away with more than just a beautiful website, you’ll have an intentional online home designed to support your business long after launch day.
Designed Around Your Business
No templates. No one-size-fits-all approach.
Your business isn’t identical to anyone else’s, so your website shouldn’t be either.
Every website I create begins with understanding the business behind it. This includes your audience, services, goals, content, personality, and the experience you want people to have when they find you.
From there, I determine the structure, creative direction, and user journey that best supports your individual needs.
Rather than squeezing your business into a predetermined layout, we’ll create an online experience that makes sense for your content and your audience.
Good website design isn’t about filling spaces on a page. It’s about making intentional decisions that support where your business is heading.
FAQs
-
I exclusively design and build websites using Squarespace 7.1.
Squarespace allows me to create beautiful, cohesive websites while giving you a platform that’s approachable enough to manage yourself once our project is complete. You won’t need to contact a developer every time you’d like to update some text, replace an image, or make a small change to your content.
Your website will be custom designed around your brand, content, and business requirements rather than simply dropping your information into a pre-designed template.
For e-commerce businesses, Shopify is an option which I’m more than happy to use.
-
I highly recommend having an established visual identity before beginning your website project.
Your branding provides the creative foundation for your website, including your logo suite, colour palette, typography, and supporting visual elements. Having these established allows me to create a website that feels cohesive, intentional, and recognisable as your business.
If you don’t currently have professional branding, we can discuss whether one of my Brand Design experiences would be the right place to begin.
If you’re looking for both brand and website design, Ivory Ember’s Premium Experience brings the two together within one cohesive project.
-
Yes. You’ll be responsible for providing the final written content required for your website before the design stage begins.
Don’t worry though - you won’t simply be asked to “send me your copy” without any direction. I will help guide you through the information needed for each page and help you think about your messaging, audience, services, calls-to-action, and overall website goals.
Having your content ready before design begins allows me to create layouts around your actual messaging rather than trying to fit finished copy into a design afterwards.
-
Website copywriting isn’t currently included within my services.
My role is to structure and present the copy you provide, and review your content from a website design and user-experience perspective.
This may include identifying areas where messaging could be clearer, where content could be condensed, or where additional information may strengthen the visitor journey. However, comprehensive copywriting or rewriting isn’t included.
If writing isn’t your thing, you’re very welcome to work with a professional copywriter before your project begins.
-
Professional photography isn’t essential in every situation, but I do recommend investing in high-quality imagery wherever possible.
Photography plays a significant role in how your website looks and feels. Beautiful, on-brand imagery can elevate the overall design, communicate your personality and help potential clients or customers connect with your business.
Depending on your business, we may be able to work with a combination of professional photography, existing high-quality imagery and carefully selected stock photography.
We’ll discuss your imagery requirements during the strategy stage so you know exactly what will be needed before design begins.
-
The number of pages included will depend on the Website Design experience you’ve selected and will be clearly outlined within your Project Proposal.
During the strategy stage, we’ll also look at your website structure and determine how your content should be organised so each page has a clear purpose within the wider visitor journey.
If we determine that additional pages would benefit your website beyond those included within your package, I’ll discuss the options and any additional investment with you before proceeding.
-
Project timelines vary depending on the size and complexity of the website, required functionality, and how promptly content and feedback are provided.
Your anticipated project timeline will be outlined within your Project Proposal before you commit to working together.
To help keep your project running smoothly, it’s important that all requested content, imagery, and information is supplied by the agreed deadlines and that feedback is provided within the allocated review periods.
-
Your website has been created so you’re able to manage everyday content updates independently, but that doesn’t mean you’re completely on your own once it launches.
You will also receive a period of post-launch support for questions relating to the website I’ve created.
If you’d like me to make additional changes, create new pages, introduce new functionality, or assist with something beyond your included support period or original project scope, you’re always welcome to get in touch. I can assess what you need and provide a separate quote where required.
-
Yes. Payment options and due dates will be clearly outlined within your Project Proposal before your project is booked.
Your initial payment secures your allocated project dates, with any remaining payments made according to the agreed payment schedule.
This means you’ll know exactly what is due and when before committing to your project.
-
Absolutely. Mobile responsiveness is an important part of every website I design.
Your website will be reviewed and optimised across desktop and mobile so that your content remains clear, visually cohesive, and easy to navigate across different screen sizes.
This includes reviewing elements such as typography, spacing, imagery, buttons, navigation, and content flow to create a cohesive experience wherever your website is viewed.
-
Basic SEO setup is included within my Website Design services.
This focuses on establishing important on-page foundations, such as page titles, meta descriptions, URL structure, heading hierarchy, image alt text, and other relevant SEO settings.
Please note that this isn’t a comprehensive SEO strategy or ongoing SEO service, and I can’t guarantee particular search engine rankings. More advanced services such as extensive keyword research, backlink strategies, ongoing optimisation or SEO campaigns would require a specialist SEO provider.
-
Yes! The exact approach will depend on the system you currently use and the functionality required. This may involve embedding your booking system, linking visitors to an external booking page, or integrating supported functionality directly within Squarespace.
We’ll establish your requirements before the design process begins so I can determine the most appropriate solution for your website.
-
Yes, and that’s one of the reasons I choose to design on Squarespace.
Your website will be professionally designed, but you won’t need to rely on me for every small update moving forward. Squarespace makes everyday tasks such as updating text, changing imagery, and managing content relatively straightforward once you’re familiar with the platform.
You will also receive resources designed to help you confidently manage your website after launch.
-
All Website Design services I offer include a Comprehensive Website Management Guide, which is a practical reference guide covering common Squarespace 7.1 tasks that you can return to whenever you need it. I also provide training in our handover session, and the recorded session.
-
No. Your Squarespace subscription, domain registration, and any ongoing third-party subscriptions remain your responsibility as the website owner.
I’ll guide you through anything I need you to organise during the project and can assist with the relevant setup or connection.
Keeping these services registered in your own name and account also ensures you retain ownership and control of the essential services associated with your website once our project is complete.
-
Absolutely. If you already have a website but it no longer reflects your business or isn’t working the way you need it to, my Website Redesign service may be a better fit.
Website redesigns are individually scoped because no two existing websites require exactly the same amount of work. I’ll consider your current website, the changes you’d like to make, your functionality requirements, and your wider goals before preparing a custom scope and project quote.
If you’re not sure whether you need a redesign or simply need some professional direction, The Website Edit may also be a helpful place to begin.
-
You don’t need everything prepared when you first enquire, but your required content will need to be supplied by the agreed project deadlines.
Designing with final content allows me to make intentional decisions around page structure, hierarchy, and user experience, rather than creating generic layouts and trying to squeeze your content into them later.
You’ll receive guidance throughout the preparation stage so you know exactly what needs to be provided and when.
If your content isn’t ready by the agreed deadline, this may affect your project timeline and scheduled launch date.
-
My services are focused on creating and launching your website rather than providing ongoing website management.
Squarespace has been chosen specifically so that you’ll be able to confidently manage many everyday updates yourself, and the handover resources included within your package will help you do so.
If you need professional assistance with larger updates, additional pages, or future design changes, you’re always welcome to return to Ivory Ember Studio for additional support.
Not sure if you need a new website?
You may be looking at your existing website and thinking “it looks fine, it works fine, do I really need something new?” and that question is totally valid. Lucky for you, I now offer Website Audits, where I conduct a comprehensive review of your website, provide you with a report, and help you make an informed decision on whether a few tweaks are all that’s needed or a website redesign would be beneficial.
